Zhongshan Smart Plastic's Journey in Crafting WAL-MART's Exclusive Handheld AC Electric Pump

In 2014, our long-term partner approached Zhongshan Smart Plastic Manufacturing Ltd., recognizing the potential of our existing JH-616 AC electric inflatable pump. They initially placed an trial order for 3000 units, requiring UL certification and GSV factory inspection for export to the United States, specifically to the Toys "R" Us (TRU) chain.

Our ETL-certified JH-616 AC electric air pump met UL standards, and to fulfill the TRU requirement for GSV factory inspection, we expedited the process and swiftly secured GSV certification.

Championing Innovation: The Birth of 90791 Electric Air Pump

Two years into our successful collaboration, our partner presented a new challenge in June 2016 — the development of a smaller handheld AC electric pump, designed to be held and operated with one hand, exclusively for WAL-MART and Toys "R" Us in the United States.

Responding swiftly, our engineers provided two design proposals within three days. The chosen design incorporated a modification: switching the "ON-OFF" toggle from square to circular and changing its color from black to red.

Despite the hurdles in sourcing rare round touch switch and a proposed cost increase, our client ultimately chose to stay with the conventional ON-OFF switch. A month of email communication culminated in a visit to our factory in August, where discussions centered around the new pump's details and WAL-MART factory inspection requirements.

90791 AC Electric Air Pump: From Concept to Reality

Building upon the finalized design, we initiated rapid prototyping, completing the handboard within a record 8-day timeframe. Our client approval led to substantial order of 150,000 units in September, contingent on production starting by November. To meet this tight deadline, we simultaneously initiated mold production, ETL certification, and material procurement for motors, wires, and other components.

Production kicked off in late October, and the initial batch of 90791 pumps was delivered seamlessly. In an extraordinary four-month span, Zhongshan Smart Plastic Manufacturing Ltd. not only met but exceeded expectations, becoming the exclusive supplier for WAL-MART in the United States.
